New Minimum Wage Rates for 2020

by Symmetry Tax Updates | Dec 27, 2019

With a new year comes new minimum wage rates. Federal Minimum wage has not changed since 2009 and will continue to stay at $7.25 per hour at the beginning of the new year. However, many state minimum wage rates and local minimum wage rates are expected to increase in 2020. Over twenty-plus states will increase their minimum wage requirements for workers beginning January 1, 2020, with Connecticut, Delaware, Nevada, and Oregon set to increase their requirements later in the year. About half of the United States will have an increased state minimum wage by January 1, 2020.

Minimum wage rates can be hard to keep up with this time of year. On top of the potential federal, state, and local minimum wage changes, the minimum wage can also change by employee type. In a recent chart created by ADP, minimum wages changes are recorded based on state and local criteria as well as company size, type of work, and tipped or non-tipped employees.

Ensure your organization is aware of the latest minimum wage requirements with the Symmetry Minimum Wage Tracker. The Minimum Wage Tracker helps companies ensure employees are paid the minimum wage when appropriate, helping to avoid lawsuits and fines by remaining compliant. The Minimum Wage Finder tracks the minimum wage rates across the country by state, city, job type, job function, effective date, and more. It also identifies the proper minimum wage rate for employees based on their work addresses. The Minimum Wage Finder uses the same proprietary technology our tax engine does with leading-edge mapping technology, and then adds geospatial boundary maps for the jurisdictions. It will then returns a set of latitude and longitude coordinates that are used to pinpoint an exact location and confirm accurate wages.
