Headquartered near Salt Lake City, Utah, Findd is a web-based time and attendance platform whose mobile, biometric time-clocking solution incorporates facial recognition and beacon technology to serve the world’s frontline workforce anywhere, anytime.
The Challenge
Founded in 2016 as a biometric time-clocking solution, by 2023, Findd was ready to expand its platform to offer online tools for HR administration to meet its customers’ requests. More specifically, it developed a product to make the critical employee onboarding experience seamless and efficient for non-desk frontline employees.
Leaning into its close working relationships with HR professionals and its history of developing robust and innovative time-and-attendance technology, Findd developed most of the back-end and user interface of its new onboarding technology itself. Employees onboard using facial recognition login and text commands — no need for a password — and generative AI is used to deliver exactly the right content to each employee, from the employee handbook to FAQs, to content translated into the employee’s native language.
However, Findd leadership did not want to wade into the arcane and constantly shifting waters of payroll tax compliance and forms. For starters, the company knew it didn’t have expertise in employee tax law, where a single business could be subject to laws and regulations — often changing — at the federal, state, and local levels. Also, Findd did not want to become a consultant to its customers on tax matters.

The Search
Findd was seeking a technology partner who could seamlessly integrate with its platform and deliver tax compliance and regulation expertise on a constant, ongoing basis. Findd sought a partner to ensure its new onboarding solution’s payroll tax withholding functionality was accurate, secure, and current every day in every jurisdiction where its customers have employees.
Among Findd’s product strengths is an intuitive user interface — white-labeled and customized to the needs of each of its customers. This is one reason the tech team at Findd knew they needed a tax software partner that could build on their strengths and seamlessly integrate with the Findd platform to provide all necessary, data-driven tax forms and be sure they’re accurately completed.
The formal search started with a simple Google search for “tax withholding forms API or software provider.” With a list of companies in mind, Findd’s chief revenue officer started scanning competitor websites and reading reviews and other publicly available material.
Loveland, Findd’s technical co-founder, had meanwhile heard about Symmetry Software from one of his developers. Impressed with Symmetry’s focus on tax forms and compliance, its client list, and its APIs and documentation — and the reference of his developer — Loveland and his CRO decided to talk with a Symmetry sales representative about Symmetry Payroll Forms. It was the only sales call of their search.
"Getting to proof of concept was a no-brainer. But more than that, during our sales calls, we thought, these are thoughtful people. We related to something on a personal level. We felt we were trusting the group behind the technology."
The Solution
By integrating Symmetry Payroll Forms into its mobile-based platform via Symmetry’s API, Findd immediately expanded its market footprint beyond time and attendance to robust employee onboarding — without Findd or its clients ever needing to worry about tax withholding forms or compliance.
Loveland reported that implementation went smoothly and on schedule, with responsive and helpful support from Symmetry at every step, including helping the Findd product team smoothly navigate some problems that occurred along the way. None of those were a cause for concern or out of the ordinary for a software integration and implementation process, Loveland said.
"Symmetry checked every box in terms of our expectations of them versus the experience we’ve had. They fixed bugs quickly, and they were fast to respond when we submitted urgent support tickets. Get on the phone fast? Check. Help negotiate a Canadian (tax withholding) license? Check."
Findd’s onboarding product’s automatic updates to payroll tax withholding forms and schedules have gone as promised, thanks to Symmetry’s robust monitoring of compliance changes and speed of implementation within its payroll tax software infrastructure products. Furthermore, Findd is confident that its customers are collecting the proper withholding information based on Symmetry’s use of GPS technology to present forms based on an employee’s withholding liability as determined by their home and work addresses down to the most local level (for example, to account for tax levies in a school district in Pennsylvania). Monitoring these kinds of program changes would be “prohibitively expensive” for Findd. In fact, the partnership so far has resulted in solutions that benefited both Findd and Symmetry: learning about and testing for tax forms in jurisdictions that were newly added to the system.
The Outcome
Implemented in Spring 2023, Symmetry Payroll Forms facilitated Findd in securing a significantly large new client in a domain where Findd lacked expertise. Initially subscribing to the US version of Symmetry Payroll Forms, Findd expanded its reach to include a Canadian-based client by engaging Symmetry for the addition of the Canadian version of the software. Symmetry seamlessly enabled access to Canadian withholding forms functionality through the same API key, requiring no additional development from Findd's end. Despite offering Findd as a white-labeled product, in sales presentations, Findd prominently features Symmetry Payroll Forms by name, capitalizing on the solution and the company’s credibility, brand reputation, and expertise.
"We actually trot out Symmetry in our sales calls because it bolsters our credibility a lot. It supports how we can quickly get to work for the company with (tax withholding and) compliance all checked off."
Looking forward, Findd marketing and technology leaders believe Symmetry could help it expand its HR platform with products to support leave management, FMLA rules, electronic verification of I-9s and Social Security enrollment, and more and view Symmetry as a truly innovative build partner.
